New Stage Players MISSION STATEMENT:

The New Stage Players are committed to developing theater makers in our area and telling stimulating stories of new or reimagined work that is inclusive, entertaining, and resonates with audience in an intimate theatrical setting.

Join the The New Stage Players as we read plays that you know, plays you may not know, and original plays.  This is a monthly series to create conversation and community, fun while  learning about theatrical writing, and gather feedback on plays NSP is considering for production.

May 9th, we will be reading and discussing Middletown, by Will Eno. @ 7pm

Grange Hall Cultural Center, 317 Howard Avenue, Waterbury Center, VT

The New Stage Players invite the community for a creative social & dramatic reading of acclaimed play, Middletown, by Will Eno read by local actors.  With Middletown, Will Eno provides us a contemporary retelling of the beloved 1938 play Our Town (by Thorton Wilder set in 1901), bringing forth themes of Daily Life, Love & Marriage, and Death & Eternity, creating a funny, whimsical, and ethereal theatrical journey for 21st century audiences.  We welcome discussion to hear  thoughts, impressions, questions, and compare the two plays as desired.

Charles Isherwood, theater critic for the New York Times called Eno “a Samuel Becket for the Jon Stewart generation.”  Will Eno is best known for his play, Thom Paine (based on nothing), which received a nomination for the Pulitzer Prize in 2005, and has earned numerous prestigious awards for his dramatic writing.   Middletown garnered Will Eno the 2010 Horton Foote Award for Promising New Play when it was performed Off-Broadway at the Vineyard Theater in NYC that same year.

These readings are free and open to the public.

Reservations are very much appreciated so we can plan accordingly, but are not necessary.
