Axel Stohlberg: A Solo Exhibition of Recent Work
Since retiring in 2013, Axel Stohlberg has been busy creating a new body of work comprised of paintings, drawings, and assemblages. Whether the work is a play on puns or an exploration of the idea of shelter (physical and emotional), through the familiar shape of a house, both long-time admirers and new viewers of Stohlberg’s work will find a personal connection to his artwork.
“With all of my art I try to tell a story,” says Stohlberg – recently profiled within the 2015 Maine Home + Design Magazine. “Art should make the viewer think as well as feel. I find everyone can relate to a shape, color, title or object no matter where they are in the world. I’ve tried to find my own voice in my art, unique, identifiable and to the point.”
Stolhberg works in several different mediums from found objects and reclaimed wood, to more traditional artist materials like oil pastels, charcoals, and acrylics.
ARTIST RECEPTION: Come meet the namesake of the gallery and get inspired on Friday, May 8th from 6-8pm. Light snacks and refreshments will be provided.
