Meetinghouse Arts presents: “Vessels” – New artwork by Cathy Stevens Pratt
Meetinghouse Arts is pleased to announce an exhibit of new work by Fayston artist Cathy Stevens Pratt. The show, “Vessels,” will run from April 5th through May 17th in the sanctuary at the Waterbury Congregational Church. It is free and open to the public.
Ms. Pratt’s bright and colorful work typically incorporates recognizable figures in combination with exaggerated or abstracted details. She intuitively builds up layers, pulls images in and out of the background, and experiments with line. The final product is an image that radiates energy and joy.
“I ponder a lot about how and where I fit into this world,” says Ms. Pratt. This show is “about how the world, my world has so many layers of communities tied together — inter-acting, inter-being.”
Ms. Pratt has worked as an illustrator and graphic designer for almost three decades. Alongside these endeavors she has simultaneously nurtured her more personal expressive artwork as well.
It is only in the last several years that Ms. Pratt has been actively showing and selling her art work at art festivals, local stores and galleries. “This art is my freedom — busting out of my more comfortable quiet place. It is me, singing in public. On a pedestal. With a microphone! This art is my most straightforward song.”
The Meetinghouse Arts project is a collaborative effort to bring more art to the community for the benefit of both artists and residents. The show is available for viewing Tuesdays through Fridays from 8:30 AM to 4:30 PM, or by appointment. Questions about Meetinghouse Arts can be directed to Torrey Smith at 244-8581. More information about Ms. Pratt’s work is available at her website, catillustrates.com or by emailing her art@catillustrates.com.
